Our community-based training site is a village called Bella Vista, which is largely Spanish-speaking. We have begun settling into our host home and village; our host family is very amiable and was one of the first to live in this location, near sprawling banana farms. Most families are originally from Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. We will stay in Bella Vista for the following two months for training and will have little Internet access. Most Fridays we will attend additional classes in the capital, Belmopan.

We are Peace Corps Volunteers living in Bella Vista, a Spanish speaking village inland from Mango Creek and just south of Stann Creek District, Belize. April is from Texas, and Scott is from Oregon and everywhere else. We most recently lived in Logan, Utah, and miss the dry, mountain air.
April went to Baylor University and studied International Studies; she also did some of her studies in the Netherlands and nonprofit work with women in Mexico and Eastern Europe. Scott joined the Air Force out of high school, but after his 4 years, he realized that wasn't for him and began going to college, recently graduating with a Bachelors in Civil Engineering.
